UN WOMEN

A hybrid entity, which is the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (also known as UN Women) was established by the United Nations General Assembly in July 2010 (A / RES / 64 / 289), became operational on January 01, 2011. The gender issues in the secretariat and the existing mandates and functions of the Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women and the Division for the Advancement of Women, the United Nations Development Fund for Women and the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women were consolidated and transferred to the entity. The entity will perform the functions of the secretariat and carry out operational activities at the country level.
